SUMMARY:Making It On Mainstreet
DESCRIPTION:@ \n \n \n\n\n\n\nMaking It on Main Street: UNCG panel on local business\, economic change & entrepreneurship. Co-hosted w/ Greensboro Chamber. \nMaking It on Main Street \nA Community Panel Discussion at UNCGCo-sponsored by the Greensboro Chamber of CommerceModerated by Jordan Brown \nFor more information\, email Channelle James at cdjames2@uncg.edu \nPanel discussion hosted at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as part of the Bryan School of Business & Economics’ School Climate programming. Co-sponsored by the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce\, this event brings together students\, faculty\, staff\, alumni\, and members of the local community to engage in meaningful dialogue about the evolving business and economic landscape in our region. \nThis year’s panel will focus on how local businesses are transitioning and adapting to larger changes in the economy\, including shifts in consumer behavior\, workforce trends\, access to capital\, and broader market forces. The conversation will feature local business owners alongside economic development professionals\, offering both lived experience and strategic insight into how the local economy is changing—and how communities can actively support small businesses. \nFor students\, the panel will highlight the importance of investing in and creating businesses within the local community\, emphasizing entrepreneurship\, career pathways\, and the long-term value of strong\, resilient local economies. \nThe discussion will be moderated by Jordan Brown\, an award-winning journalist known for storytelling that informs\, connects\, and resonates with audiences. Whether anchoring the morning news or leading long-form reporting\, Jordan brings a thoughtful\, community-centered approach to conversations about business\, culture\, and opportunity. \nDuring her time at FOX8\, Jordan has led major storytelling initiatives\, including taking the reins of the In Black & White franchise and producing multi-episode specials such as Soul City and The Lytles: An American Story. Most recently\, she launched NC Uncovered\, a podcast-style digital series designed to create space for deeper\, more conversational storytelling beyond the traditional newscast. \nJordan has been recognized as one of Black Business Inc.’s 40 Under 40 Most Influential in the Triad and is the recipient of both an Emmy Award and a Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas award for her reporting on race\, culture\, and diversity. A metro-Detroit native\, Jordan has called the Triad home for the past four years. \nFollowing the panel discussion\, attendees are invited to participate in a networking session\, where local businesses will host tables and engage directly with students\, alumni\, and community members to share information about their work\, products\, and services. \nHeld during Black History Month\, Making It on Main Street underscores the importance of inclusive economic growth and representation within local business ecosystems. While panelist selection will honor this context\, the event is open and welcoming to all\, and designed to benefit anyone interested in entrepreneurship\, economic development\, and the future of local business. \nPanelists include: \nMarvin J. Price\, Executive Vice President\, Economic Development \nPenny Whiteheart Piedmont Triad Partnership \nModerator \nJordan Brown – Fox8 WGHP \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n Add to calendar \n\n\n\n \n Google Calendar \n \n\n \n iCalendar \n \n\n \n Outlook 365 \n \n\n \n Outlook Live
