Dear Pro-Communicators,

University Communications has some brand updates regarding brand story assets, email headers, and fonts.

We are happy to share that all brand video assets are now online and available for you to use! Visit to access two years’ worth of brand student stories in print and video. Please note that we discovered and fixed a typo in the “Edward Ottati: Jumping Out Of A Plane And Landing On Your Feet Changes Everything” print assets. If you’ve used this student story, please revisit the site and download the updated assets.

The UNCG Brand Guide’s Web and E-media section has been updated to include customizable email template headers for your use. Please review the instructions on how to add the customizable gray bar to create a customized email header.

We are providing new guidance on our brand fonts. The UNCG Brand Guide requires that headlines be in Pluto Sans Heavy font and all uppercase. However, we have observed and heard from you that Pluto Sans Heavy can be difficult to read when in a smaller font size. Because of this, we are modifying the guidelines to reflect:

  • If the headline is 20 point/pixel size or smaller, use the Sofia Pro font in sentence case format (some sites may use initial case and that is acceptable.)

To achieve this, the style sheet in the shared assets, which are used by most UNCG websites, has been modified and pushed out. The fonts on the main site will be modified in the coming days. If your site does not use the shared assets you will have to manually make these changes to your site. We appreciate your understanding and collaboration in making this change to benefit the end users’ experience. As a reminder, University employees may obtain the new fonts by completing the request form here.

Continuing on fonts, the University license for Trade Gothic (the former brand font) will cease on Jan. 31, 2020.  Members of the WebDev group have been informed of this deadline as several sites have not moved to the new brand fonts yet. Please work with your respective website team to move to the new brand fonts by Jan. 31 as Trade Gothic will no longer be available for use thereafter.

Please contact with any brand questions you may have.
