Honors Students at Model UN Conference

The Lloyd International Honors College has selected seven students to participate in the Harvard World Model United Nations Conference in Taipei, Taiwan, March 14-18. UNCG is one of only two public universities in North Carolina to send delegates to this conference, which will give students the opportunity to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges along with more than 2,400 students from over 50 countries.

“This is truly a unique opportunity for our students to be able to interact with their peers from across the globe in a setting much like the real United Nations,” said Dr. Jerry Pubantz, director of the Lloyd International Honors College.

The following will participate in the conference:

• Brittany Atkinson, senior, Asheboro

• Reem Disu, senior, Accra, Ghana

• Molly Hagen, senior, Wake Forest

• Kelsey Maher, sophomore, Salisbury

• Juan Miranda, sophomore, Charlotte

• Diana Phelps, freshman, Raleigh

• Andrea Schronce, senior, Maiden

Model United Nations simulates the work of bodies such as the United Nations, the World Health Organization and the African Union, with participants representing countries, organizations or leaders in order to debate pressing international issues. The World Model United Nations Conference began in 1991 at Harvard University and today is the most diverse college-level Model UN conference in the world.
