Search for Next Dean of School of Education

Dr. Dale Schunk will be stepping down as dean of the School of Education and returning as professor in the Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education. He has been dean since 2001, and will step down on Dec. 31.

Provost David. H. Perrin has appointed a search committee for the next School of Education dean. Dr. Clara M. Chu has agreed to chair the committee. A town hall meeting will be Wednesday, March 31.

Baker and Associates, the firm that conducted the search that led to the appointment of Chancellor Linda P. Brady, Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering Founding Dean Jim Ryan, and that is now assisting UNCG with the search for Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development, will represent UNCG for the dean search.

A School of Education town hall meeting to learn about the process, and discuss and provide feedback on the position description, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 31, 3:30-5:30 p.m, in Curry Building Auditorium (Room 225).

The search committee includes: Clara M. Chu, Chair; Margaret Arbuckle; Rosann Bazirjian; Micheline Chalhoub-Deville; Jewell Cooper; Julia Jackson-Newsom; Keith Mobley; Craig Peck; Marcia Rock; Ludwig van Broekhuizen; Dominique Roberts; and John Eldridge.

The tentative timeline for the search is for the committee to begin screening applicants in May and to conduct preliminary interviews in June. From these interviews, finalists will be selected for interviews in early fall, with a start date of Jan. 1, 2011.

Those unable to attend this meeting and wishing to provide input or to nominate candidates for consideration may contact Dr. Clara M. Chu, chair, SOE Dean Search Committee.
