Campus Weekly is published each Wednesday when classes are in session. In the summer, it is published biweekly.

Student-led Jazz on Tap

The jazz trio Unit Three, comprised of UNCG students, has been accepted to the semi-finals of the Bucharest International Jazz Competition in Bucharest, Romania. They will compete there in May. To celebrate and raise funds for travel expenses, Unit Three will be presenting “Creativity Overseas, An Evening of Jazz,” Sunday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at Tate Street Coffee. The trio is led by Antonio Truyols, and consists of Truyols on piano, Joseph Dickey on Bass, and Daniel Faust on drum set.

In addition, another group in which Antonio Truyols plays, Conjunto, will present a free concert in the Music Building’s Collins Lecture Hall on Wednesday, April 7, at 5 p.m. It consists of Truyols, Clark Singleton, Daniel Faust, Sandy Blocker and Matt Gallo. “We are all UNCG undergraduates and this is part of a class we are doing as part of our jazz degree,” Truyols says. The quintet plays “Jazz, Afro-Cuban, Fusion – you like it, you’ll hear it,” he adds.
