“Boundaries” MFA Dance Concert

040710EyeOnArts_ZweierDanceWhat are you bound by?

Choreographer Tricia Zweier poses the question in her MFA dance concert, “BOUNDARIES,” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 9-10, in the UNCG Dance Theater.

Through a combination of choreography, sound, text and materials such as fabric, tape and boxes, the concert explores the question’s literal and metaphoric; performative and material; and individual, social and familial considerations. Zweier’s work has been characterized as “highly energetic,” distinguished by “sophisticated movement invention,” and “having the zany appeal of an Almodóvar film.”

Tickets – $12 for general admission, $9 for senior citizens and children, and $6 for UNCG faculty and students – can be purchased at the UNCG Box Office in Elliott University Center noon-5 p.m. weekdays or in the lobby of the Dance Theater beginning an hour before each performance. For more information, call the Box Office at 4-4849.

Originally from Manahawkin, N.J., Zweier earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from The Richard Stockton College. Before pursuing her MFA at UNCG, she choreographed in the Northeast U.S. and performed internationally with Carnival Cruise Lines.

She plans to complete a master’s in kinesiology at UNCG next spring. Zweier also is a dance filmmaker whose film, “A Simple Regret” can be seen at http://www.uncg.edu/dce/grdpgrm.html.
