UNCG Campus Weekly

Campus Weekly is published each Wednesday when classes are in session. In the summer, it is published biweekly.

20,530.77 miles so far

ByTheNumbersIconThat’s how far, cumulatively, this semester’s 273 Spartan Steps participants have walked. That’s more than 10 times the distance between North Carolina and Las Vegas, and the competition is only one-third completed. It’s a cumulative total of 41,307,906 steps (as of Friday, April 9). The individual leader is Allyn Cabral (Parking Services), though Jason Morris (HRS) tells CW it’s a close race among the top five. Dr. Anthony Taylor (Music), who is featured in a Five Spot this week, is second. The departmental leader is University Advancement; the average UA participant has walked 382,595 steps in the competition so far. Foundation Finance is second. Organized walks are being planned week-to-week – Chancellor Brady has been among the participants. Future walks and related events will be posted on the Spartan Steps calendar.  Some walking trails created thus far can be found at http://web.uncg.edu/hrs/Benefits/Wellness/WalkingTrails.pdf. More trails are being planned. “The trails distance can assist with determining the amount of steps for those who may not have a pedometer or perhaps left it at home one day. The average steps taken in one mile is 2012,” says Morris.
