Faculty Promoted, Awarded Tenure

The UNCG Board of Trustees has approved promotions for tenure-track faculty for the 2010-11 academic year.

“These promotions are representative of the outstanding work of our faculty in teaching, research and service in support of the mission of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro,” said Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor David H. Perrin.

“The review for promotion is very rigorous, and these faculty are to be congratulated for the confidence bestowed upon them by their colleagues and the administration of UNCG.”

Six faculty members have been promoted from associate professor to full professor:

  • Jennifer L. Etnier, Department of Kinesiology;
  • Venkataraman M. Iyer, Department of Accounting;
  • Thomas R. Kwapil, Department of Psychology;
  • Anna Marshall-Baker, Department of Interior Architecture;
  • Carmen T. Sotomayor, Department of Romance Languages; and
  • Deborah J. Taub, Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education.

Nineteen faculty members have been promoted from assistant professor to associate professor and awarded permanent tenure:

  • Erick T. Byrd, Department of Recreation, Tourism, and Hospitality Management;
  • Tanya M. Coakley, Department of Social Work;
  • Michelle M. Dowd, Department of English;
  • Maria E. Garcia Bayonas, Department of Romance Languages;
  • Jolene M. Henning, Department of Kinesiology;
  • Yu-Chin Hsieh, Department of Recreation, Tourism, and Hospitality Management;
  • Brett R. Ingram, Department of Media Studies;
  • Karen M. Laparo, Department of Human Development and Family Studies;
  • Lisa Levenstein, Department of History;
  • Stuart Marcovitch, Department of Psychology;
  • Kimberlianne Podlas, Department of Media Studies;
  • Adam Ricci, Department of Music Theory;
  • Jan Rychtar, Department of Mathematics and Statistics;
  • Maria C. Sanchez, Department of English;
  • Brian R. Sevier, Department of Teacher Education and Higher Education;
