Andy Warhol and Friends, All Month Long

The Weatherspoon’s July Film & Music Series will celebrate the creative personalities who inspired and were inspired by Andy Warhol. Stay late for live music in the Sculpture Garden featuring indie rock of the 1970-80s. Galleries will be open each of these Thursday evenings until 9 p.m. Films begin at 6:30 p.m.

Film: Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child

Music: The Gallows Humor (Ramones cover band)

In his short career, Jean-Michel Basquiat was a phenomenon. He became notorious for his graffiti art under the moniker Samo created in the late 1970s on the Lower East Side scene; sold his first painting to Deborah Harry for $200; and became best friends with Andy Warhol.

Thursday, July 15, 6:30 pm
Music: Amps Do Furnish a Room (Television cover band)

Renowned avant-garde filmmaker Jonas Mekas’s compilation of film diaries about Andy Warhol from 1965-1982. Excerpts include scenes from the Factory, the homes of Fluxus artist George Maciunas, and photographer Stephen Shore, and Warhol’s funeral.

Film: Beautiful Darling: The Life and Times of Candy Darling, Warhol Superstar

Music: Rough Hands (Velvet Underground cover band)

This documentary film pays tribute to the short but influential life of an extraordinary person—the actress Candy Darling, born James Slattery in a Long Island suburb in 1944.

In addition, the month’s Noon @ the ‘Spoon art tour will feature “Big Shots: Andy Warhol Polaroids.” It will be Tuesday, July 13.
