UNCG Campus Weekly

Campus Weekly is published each Wednesday when classes are in session. In the summer, it is published biweekly.

Summer Band Camps Conclude with Galas

The UNCG Summer Band Camp campers will show some of what they learned at Gala concerts this Friday.

Now in its 28th year, the camp is known for being the largest and most popular music camp on a college or university campus in America. As many as 1,750 students have attended over the past two weeks, from 20 different states.

The camp is divided into two one-week sessions.

Last week, the camps hosted eight concert bands, one orchestra, one chorus and 80 pianists. Another large group of students are attending this week.

Each week of camp ends with Gala concerts on Friday night, where parents, friends and members of the campus community can enjoy the students’ talent. There is no admission charge.

This Friday, July 23:

  • Cone Ballroom – EUC – 6:15 p.m. – Junior Orchestra, Senior Orchestra
  • EUC Auditorium – 6:15 p.m. – Green Beginner Band, Gold Beginner Band
  • Aycock Auditorium – 6:15 p.m. – Red Junior Band, Taylor Senior Band, Aycock Senior Band
  • Taylor Theatre – 6:15 p.m. – White Junior Band, Blue Junior Band
  • Music Building Recital Hall – 6:15 p.m. – Piano Soloists & Piano Camp Chorus, Senior Mixed Chorus

Students from earlier years have posted clips from earlier Gala concerts. Links on the camps’ web site include YouTube postings of choral, piano and band concerts.
