090810CampusPeople_WoodsDr. Frank Woods (African American Studies) displayed some of his handcarved figures at the North Carolina Museum of History in support of their program on Black Confederate and United States Colored Troops on Aug. 18.



090810CampusPeople_CervenakDr. Sarah Jane Cervenak (Women’s and Gender Studies and African American Studies) was a featured panelist on the Aug. 26 broadcast of WUNC’s “The State of Things.” The focus of the panel, “Overcoming Offensive Language,” also featured senior scholars from Duke and Arizona State University. Sarah discussed offensive language used in reference to women.

090810CampusPeople_SchallockDebbie Schallock (University Relations) will be part of a panel presentation at the Conference of the Florida Communication Association on Oct. 14-16. The conference theme is “Rethinking Communication: 21st Century Trends.” Her research, “A Space for Gray: The Value of Difference,” is focused on how difference can inform organizational and leadership communication, particularly for those engaged in global practice.
