Faculty Artists Present Dance Concert Feb. 11-12

The Department of Dance will present an evening of original work by faculty artists at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11-12, in Aycock Auditorium.

The faculty bring a variety of backgrounds and experience to their choreography, and the concert will showcase some of the best artists in the state and create a compelling night of dance.

Four works – including two premieres – will be shown:

  • Duane Cyrus will present a new work for 11 dancers with original music by Balanescu Quartet.
  • Robin Gee will present a new African work with nine dancers and two musicians.
  • Jan Van Dyke will show a newly revised version of her 1999 dance “Jive,” a quintet with music by Andrew Bird.
  • John Gamble will present a reconstruction of his 1988 dance “Wintersong,” performed by members of his company, the John Gamble Dance Theater, and featuring associate professor B.J. Sullivan in the leading role.

Tickets are $12 for general admission, $9 for seniors and students, and $6 for UNCG students through the Box Office, 4-4849. Parking is available behind the Weatherspoon Art Museum.
