Greatest Hits of the Civil War

The 19th century produced a lot of memorable songs – and some prolific songwriters.

The concert and talk “The Greatest Hits of the Civil War: America’s Earliest Professional Songwriters” will be March 30, at 7:30 p.m., in the Music Building’s Organ Hall.

The guest artist will be Rick Spencer.

Dr. Revell Carr says ,”Rick Spencer is an expert on sea chanteys and other 19th century American musical genres. For this program he is going to be talking about, and performing, the music of several of the most prominent songwriters of the mid-19th century, including Stephen Foster, Dan Emmett and Henry Clay Work.”
