Dr. Roy Schwartzman

Dr. Roy Schwartzman (Communication Studies) was awarded the 2012 Shoah Foundation Institute Teaching Fellowship to enhance a course on the Holocaust to be taught next year.

This is the inaugural year of the fellowship, which supports Holocaust education focusing on survivor testimonies. Schwartzman’s proposal was selected from an international pool of applicants. The grant includes financial support for course development as well as consultations with curators of the Visual History Archive at the University of Southern California repository of 52,000 Holocaust survivors’ video testimonies. UNCG is one of only 36 locations worldwide with full online access to the entire collection of video testimonies.

Schwartzman’s project involves assembling Holocaust survivor testimonies for the Lloyd International Honors College seminar “Witnessing the Holocaust,” which will be offered this fall. He has held the Chancellor’s Resident Fellowship in the honors college during 2011-2012 and is an honors college fellow.
