In memoriam: Dr. Marilyn Lea Miller

Dr. Marilyn Lea Miller, professor emeritus, Department of Library and Information Studies, died May 22. She was 83.

Miller’s career advanced education, research and practice in library service to children broadly and school librarianship specifically. In 1987 she accepted the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Library Science and Instructional Technology at UNCG, from which she retired in 1995.

She received many awards and honors, and at the national level, she served as President of the Association for Services to Children, the American Association of School Librarians and the American Library Association. The Dr. Marilyn L. Miller Scholarship Award, established in her name at UNCG, is made on academic merit to students enrolled in a degree program offered through the Library and Information Studies Department.
