Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy

Photo of Foust Building with snow on the treesUNCG employees heard a presentation Tuesday about the revised Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy for The University of North Carolina. The policy went into effect Jan. 1, 2016. This policy applies to all employees of The University of North Carolina who are subject to the State Human Resources Act (SHRA / SPA).

The policy provides definitions for what constitutes an adverse weather or emergency event and provides additional clarification on the university services and operations determined to be mandatory during both adverse weather and emergency events. It is important to note that the chancellor’s determination to cancel classes is a separate decision from his authority to declare one of the following condition levels in an adverse weather or emergency event:

  • A) Condition 1 – (Reduced Operations)

  • B) Condition 2 – (Suspended Operations)

  • C) Condition 3 – (Closure)

These condition levels can be declared for the entire campus or for one or more specific buildings or operational units based on the scope, severity and nature of the event. Please refer to the policy to review the details for each of these conditions and for time accounting during reduced or suspended operations.

Employees can access the entire Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy and decision matrix on the Human Resources site.
