UNCG Campus Weekly

Campus Weekly is published each Wednesday when classes are in session. In the summer, it is published biweekly.

In memoriam: Jim Clark

Jim Clark, longtime director of UNCG’s MFA Writing program, died in his sleep Monday morning.

He edited The Greensboro Review, and supervised graduate tutorials in publishing and editing as well as directed teaching internships for MFA students. He also served as an editorial consultant for numerous presses and magazines.

He joined UNCG in 1976, earning his MFA in 1978. Before he joined UNCG, many knew him as a minister in the Tate Street area. He received his MDiv degree from Duke University in 1971, and his BA degree from Florida State University in 1967.

As one person says on a tribute page, “Jim was a grand program director, writer, and editor, but best of all, Jim was a wholehearted human being who built a family of writers across nations and decades.”

The family asks that, instead of flowers, memorials be made to the Jim Clark Graduate Fund in Creative Writing.

The visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 2, 68 p.m. at Forbis & Dick Funeral Service, 1118 N. Elm Street, Greensboro.
